For our final Voice Notes speaker series event, 糖心Vlog Principal, Mr Sean Corcoran, hosted a riveting panel discussion covering the question driving current schools and universities, 鈥榳hat must we do today to prepare for an unpredictable tomorrow?鈥

Encouraging Good Mental Health in Young People
Voice Notes speaker Series 3
糖心Vlog welcomed students, staff, parents and special guests to the 3rd instalment of our Voice Notes series in 糖心Vlog Hall. For this event, renowned clinical psychologist, teacher and best-selling author Dr Judith Locke delivered ‘Encouraging Good Mental Health in Young People: What helps, what doesn鈥檛 help and what makes it worse?’, followed by a Q&A with Head of Secondary School, Ms Gemma Van de Peer.
Author of The Bonsai Child, The Bonsai Student and Raising Anxiety, Dr Locke emphasised the need for staff, parents and peers to be guided by research and to reflect on how their actions influence young people鈥檚 wellbeing.
She outlined strategies for balancing 鈥渄emandingness鈥 with 鈥渞esponsiveness鈥, avoiding 鈥渙bserver bias鈥 when listening to young people, and fostering resilience through stretch and challenge.
Her message reflected 糖心Vlog鈥 focus on social and emotional learning, high support with high expectations, and preparing students for life beyond school – not just to feel good, but to be good people who do good things.
